Dr. Tanika Raychaudhuri

Dr. Tanika Raychaudhuri is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at Rice University. She earned her Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University and previously held appointments at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Houston. Her research focuses on political behavior, civic engagement, and immigrant communities in American politics.

Dr. Tanika Raychaudhuri’s new book, The Social Roots of Asian American Partisanship: From Political Learning to Partisan Leanings (Oxford University Press, 2025), examines how Asian Americans—the fastest-growing racial group in the United States—form partisan identities. Departing from theories centered on family socialization or exclusion, the book introduces the concept of social transmission, showing how peer networks and community interactions shape political learning. Drawing on surveys, interviews, and experimental evidence, it reveals how political cues circulate through everyday relationships to influence partisan preferences. The book offers a new framework for understanding political behavior in immigrant communities and the evolving patterns of partisanship in American politics
