The purpose of this talk is to generate knowledge about how to develop a fruitful relationship between theory and practice in politics. The talk will cover various forms of activism including community-based and online organizing as well as brainstorm ways to connect the two. How might our media activism function as spaces to support on the ground movements and to negotiate concepts of democratic citizenship? What is the effect of digital media on social participation and community? The talk will focus on the work of several organizations including CAAAV: Organizing Asian Communities, Chinatown Artist Brigade, 18 Million and Rising, and Asians4BlackLives-NYC. There will be an open conversation with the audience and Q&A session afterwards.
