Three Political Science graduate students/alumni have recently accepted job offers: Tristin Beckman (Oxford University), Rhoanne Esteban (Wesleyan University), and Cecilia Farfan Mendez (University of California San Diego).

Professor Neil Narang won the award for "Best Paper" of the year on Conflict Processes from the American Political Science Association for his paper titled, "A Strategic Logic of Attacking Aid Workers: Evidence from Violence in Afghanistan, 2008 – 2012".

Political Science Majors working in unpaid internships in a local government agency are invited to apply for the Winter 2017 Larry Adams Scholarship. The scholarship is open to upper division Political Science majors who have a strong GPA.

The California Institute for Water Resources has awarded a grant to Professor Leah Stokes for a study of water policy and conservation in response to the drought in California.  Her project will compare conservation levels across water districts and how various factors relate to conservation outcomes.

Professor Pei-te Lien's new co-authored book Contested Transformation provides the first comprehensive survey of people of color elected to public office. Jim Logan interviewed Professor Lien for a story on UCSB's Current.

Professor Cynthia Kaplan has been awarded the 80th Anniversary Medal from Al Farabi Kazakhstan National University for service to the university. The award was granted by the Chancellor of Al Farabi KazNU and will be presented by Professor Gulnar Nasimova (Chair, Department of Political Science, Al Farabi KazNU) in January.

Following President-Elect Donald Tump's phone conversation with Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen, Professor Pei-te Lien was interviewed by KPCC and what it might mean for future U.S. relations with China and Taiwan.
