Andrew Norris to Join Faculty in Fall 2007

The Political Science Department announces the appointment of political theorist Andrew Norris as Assistant Professor of Political Science, concluding a nation-wide search that brought in more than 120 applications.

Professor Norris received his Ph.D. in Rhetoric from the University of California, Berkeley. He has been a member of the faculty at Duquesne University and most recently at the University of Pennsylvania, and has received several research grants from the Max Planck Institute for European Legal History in Frankfort am Main. He has published numerous essays on Giorgio Ambien, Hannah Arendt, Stanley Cavell, Kant, Hegel and other political philosophers. He is the editor of Politics, Metaphysics, and Death (Duke University Press, 2005), and The Claim to Community: Essays on Stanley Cavell and Political Philosophy (Stanford University Press, 2006). Norris is also known for the quality of his teaching, and while at Penn, was one of the founders a of regional political theory workshop.
