| In honor of his 70th birthday, a "festschrift" (a volume celebrating the work of a particular author) has been dedicated to Emeritus Professor Peter Merkl. The volume entitled Germany at Fifty-Five was edited by James Sperling and published by University of Manchester Press. The volume is a continuation of a series of five-year volumes of studies on German politics that Merkl used to edit, and includes essays by Merkl and UCSB Ph.Ds Mary McKenzie, James Sperling, and Arthur Rachwald. For a number of years, Merkl was president of the Conference Group on German Politics (CGGP), a group of more than 100 American specialists on German politics. |
