Bruce Bimber Awarded Prestigious CASBS Fellowship

Professor Bruce Bimber has been selected to be a fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences for the academic year 2006-2007. The Center for Advanced Study is an independent organization dedicated to advanced knowledge about human behavior through research.

Unlike other major academic awards, scholars do not apply for these fellowships. From a database of nominations by colleagues and administrators, the Center identifies and issues invitations to scholars in human biology, social sciences, and the humanities. The maximum number of invitations issued for each year’s interdisciplinary residential fellowship program is 48. During the year, fellows will be afforded the freedom to work on whatever scholarly projects that they deem important.

During his fellowship year, Professor Bimber plans to complete a book manuscript about the Internet and collective action that he is co-authoring, and to start an exploratory project on evolutionary bases of communication patterns in societies.
