Memoirs of War, Contemporary Japan, and its Asian Neighbors
At the invitation of the Center for Cold War Studies and the East Asia Center, Ambassador
Kazuhiko Togo, Japan's former Ambassador to Holland, former councilor for the Japanese Ministry
of Education, and former chief of the European Asian Bureau will speak on the UCSB campus on the
topic, "Memoirs of War, Contemporary Japan, and its Asian Neighbors." Japanese Prime Minister Koizumi's
visits to the Yasukuni Shrine has provoked storms of protest in China and South Korea. Most recently,
Foreign Minister Aso's statement on Taiwan has counsed strong protest in China. These and other issues
related to Japan, China, and the two Koreas will be the main focus of his talk.

Center, and co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science and others at UCSB.
