Transnational Black Politics and the Limits of Racial Reasoning

Photo of Michael Hanchard Michael Hanchard is Professor of Political Science and African American Studies at Northwestern University, where he is also Director of the Institute for Diasporic Studies. He is currently working on "Afro-Modernity: Race, Transnationalism, and the African Diaspora," a comparative analysis of transnational political movements.

This presentation is sponsored by the UCSB New Racial Studies Project (NSR), and co-sponsored by the Citizenship and Democracy in the 21st Century Faculty Research Group of the Interdisciplinary Humanities Center.

The goal of the UCSB New Racial Studies Project is to foster and support new knowledge about race and racism. Co-Principal Investigators for NSR are Professors Howard Winant, Sociology, and Christopher Parker, Political Science.
