Media and the Next Election--A Look Back, A Look Forward
In this free lecture, Jeff Greenfield, Senior Political Analyst at CNN, will discuss
lessons from past elections about the media's role in presidential contests, and what
to expect in 2008.
Jeff Greenfield is a four-time Emmy Award winner who has covered all aspects of presidential
politics for network news organizations since 1980, including co-hosting CNN's nightly special
election program during the 37 days of the 2000 presidentail election and Florida recount. From
this experience, he wrote Oh Waiter! One Order of Crow! (Putnam Publishing Group, 2001).
He is a prolific author whose other books include A Populist Manifesto (1972), Playing
to Win: An Insider's Guide to Politics (1980), The Real Campaign (1981), and The
People's Choice (1995).
During Winter Quarter 2007, Greenfield is teaching two courses at
UCSB: "Ethics in Politics" (A Senior Seminar for Political Science and Communication majors) and
"Political Media in the United States" for Film Studies.
