"21 Up:"
The latest documentary from Sergei Miroshnichenko

Sergei Miroshnichenko's film series "7 Up in the Soviet Union," "Born in the USSR: 14 Up," and now, "21 Up" tells a remarkable story of the social, political, economic, and cultural changes that have taken place in the former Soviet Union over the past two decades. The idea for the program originated with a British series started by Michael Apted in 1964. The Soviet version was shot in 1990 with 20 seven-year-olds from across the former Soviet Union. The second installment, "14 Up," was released in 1998 and won an International Emmy award for best documentary. The Soviet series differs from the British series in that it documents a period of major social change that deeply affects its subjects' lives. As a result, this film should be of great interest to students and faculty from many disciplines.

This screening is a presentation of the Department of Germanic, Slavic, and Semitic studies, and is co-sponsored by the Department of Political Science and other campus departments.
