Since the announcement of his death, the department has received many tributes honoring the late Emeritus Professor Stanley V. Anderson, which we share along with information about his memorial.

Photo of AndersonStudents have been generous with their praise in both e-mails and letters to the department.  Below are just a few of the many tributes we have received in honor of this gentle and wise man.

"Stan was always generous with his time and he took a genuine and sincere interest in other people.

"Engaging, interested in students, unpreposessing, modest, inquisitive and hard-working--all those made up his qualities that I enjoyed in his upper division classes."

"He was one of the most supportive profs during my graduate program at the department."

"All of us stand on the shoulders of those who, like Stanley Anderson, mentored us and helped make us who we are."

Similar sentiments were expressed by guests and speakers at a memorial service that was held on campus on July 25, 2009.  For those who interested in honoring Professor Anderson, the family has decided to dedicate a bench on the UCSB campus in Stan's memory.  They note that Stan was always proud to be a part of UCSB, and that he loved to walk around the campus and appreciated a nice place to sit and enjoy its beauty.

Friends who wish to contribute to the memorial bench may send their checks to the political science department.  Checks should be made payable to The UCSB FOUNDATION with the notation "Anderson Memorial" on the memo line, and mailed to:
