Benjamin J. Cohen, Louis Lancaster Professor of International Economy, was recently quoted in an NPR article discussing possible changes in how the global economy functions.

Professor Rose McDermott has been elected to the APSA Council for a two-year term (2008-2010).

Binion Receives Mentor Award from the Women's Caucus for Political Science
Professor Gayle Binion has been named one of the recipients of the Mentor Award from the Women's Caucus for Political Science.  The Award recognizes excellent mentorship of women graduate students and junior faculty.
UCSB at Annual Meeting of APSA
Nine political science faculty members and six graduate students, along with three other UCSB faculty, presented papers or led discussions at the Annual Meeting of the American Political Science Association in Boston, August 28-31, 2008.
New Research Focus Group on Identity

Ruth Schneider, who was the department's administrative and chair's assistant during its early days, passed away on March 12, 2008.

In the new report, a non-partisan group of retired senior flag and general officers from all four branches of the U.S. military has concluded that the ban on openly gay service members is counterproductive and should end.

Binion Receives Oliver Johnson Award

Professor Gayle Binion has been named one of the recipients of the 2008 Oliver Johnson Award for Distinguished Leadership in the Academic Senate.

Alumnus Establishes Endowed Chair in International Security Studies

UC Santa Barbara has received a $600,000 gift from UCSB alumnus Anton Vonk (MA '05) and his wife, Diane Boss, to establish a new endowed chair in political science.
