The Political Science Department has established new Guidelines for Enrollment for Winter 2010 classes. Students who would like to get into classes that are already full should read these Guidelines carefully to see how their individual instructors are going to handle late enrollments.

All Political Science offices, including advising, will be closed on Wednesday, November 25 under the department's furlough plan and will remain closed through the Thanksgiving weekend. In addition, all offices will be closed December 21, 2009 through January 3, 2010.

This year the Political Science Department welcomed 14 new graduate students. This is the largest incoming class in recent memory, and is yet another sign of the growing prominence and excellence of our graduate program.

Cynthia Stavrianos, Ph.D. '08, has won an honorable mention from the Women and Politics Research Section of the American Political Science Association for her dissertation, "The Politics of Motherhood: Maternal Frames in Women's Political Action."

Professor Benjamin J. Cohen and political science alumna, the Reverend Anne Sutherland Howard '75, have been selected to be speakers at commencement exercises in 2009.

Emeritus Professor Stanley V. Anderson passed away unexpectedly on May 26, 2009. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the UCSB Faculty Club.
